Losing Your Social Life
I have noticed that the majority of people do not turn to the internet to find themselves another job – they are usually looking to escape the dreaded ’9-5′ work day.
That is why I find it sad that when I see that most people trying to make a living online end up working harder on their online businesses than they ever did at their job.
Now don’t get me wrong, I understand that like anything, you need to put a lot of effort in at the start to get the ball rolling. However, I don’t know about you but I want to spend time with my family and experience the world – not be stuck at a computer working all day.
How To Make Money Online – Without Always Being Online!
1. Focus On Passive Traffic
Now I know that my main income source is blogging (read my story here), even blogging doesn’t need to be a full-time job. I constantly see new bloggers frantically trying to build popularity by commenting like a crazy person and networking like there is no tomorrow – and while this does work, it is also a lot of work.
No matter what type of business you are planning on starting online, let me encourage you to focus on passive traffic.
What Is Passive Traffic?
Passive traffic is where you don’t have to constantly be going out and looking for new visitors. Instead, they are coming whether you are working or not. This could be through search engine optimization (read Daniels SEO Revenge), PPC advertising or a variety of other traffic methods. The goal is just to create a traffic funnel that works without you.
2. Create A System
It is no point having traffic coming to your website if you have not thought about how you are going to profit from your visitors. Now this may see a bit ‘money focused’ but you are creating an online BUSINESS – so of course you want to be making money.
The only problem I have with blogging is that you start to get a following. You might be wondering how a following can be a problem, but if you are trying to create a passive income and you have people who are looking forward to your next blog post… Plus blogging EVERY day is what is promoted as ‘best practice’, but that can become quite a lot of work -especially when you have more than one blog.
So What Are Some Proven Online Passive Income Systems
- The ‘Paid Product’ Model
Daniel’s SEO Revenge is a great example of this model. Creating a downloadable product and setting up an affiliate program is a great way to build a passive income (especially if you are building a list through the product as well!). - The ‘Free Course and Autoresponder’ Model
By offering a free product as an incentive for people to join your email list is a popular business model. This is the method I am implementing with my new ‘how to make your own website‘ project. The key here is a quality free product – otherwise you will have trouble converting with your autoresponder. - The ‘Niche Site’ Model
If you would prefer to just build websites, then maybe the niche site model is better for you. The goal of a niche website is to gain search engine traffic and convert them to profit – be that Adsense, Amazon or any other affiliate program. If you pick the right niche this can be quite a profitable business and since once they are set up they practically run themselves – you can build a network of niche sites and increase your profits.
The whole idea is to create something that once set up will not require your attention on a daily basis!
3. Enjoy!
Now that you have started to create a passive income source, don’t try and fill the rest of your time with! If you stay on your computer you will get caught up in Twitter, Facebook, your emails and the endless supply of information. Spend time with your family, experience the world and live a life that will make your friends and family envious!

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for contributing in my first guest post,
Family is important, and spending less time and making more money is where they key trick is with online businesses, the more you are experienced with this, the easier it gets!
Everybody has their favorite way of using the web. Many folks search to find what we need, click in to a specific website, read what's available and click out. That's not always a bad thing because it's efficient. We learn to tune out things we don't need and go straight towards what's necessary.
Interesting article, Thomas. I believe passive income and traffic is the most important, because it can help you develop further and involve in other businesses.

Agree. The "true internet business" is when you can make money autopilot when you're sleep. And I'm in aiming for that.
