Google invented “nofollow” to help webmasters and site owners counteract spam. All this was started in 2005. With blogs such as wordpress by default comments are nofollow, but you can set this to dofollow if you want which is an incentive for users who are familiar with this to comment in your site.

When doing SEO or even Viral Marketing Blog Comments if done in moderation, this can help Search engine rankings, by commenting you can gain more backlinks, but there are a few things to consider – whether the link you have gained from commenting if this is a dofollow link this link will carry more weight then a nofollow atleast to googles algorithm.
Here I have put together a little secret for when commenting and looking out to comment on Blogs which have dofollow. You can copy and past this text into google search box and replace “keyword” with the keyword that relates to the niche you are in and then the results will give you dofollow blogs to comment on – keyword “Remember my personal information” “Notify me of follow-up comments”.
Although dofollow is more useful on an seo perspective, I personally recommend to comment on both dofollow and nofollow as this will make the links you are gaining to your site look more natural. I also find when commenting on nofollow blogs I tend to get more click-through’s because generally the site is less spammy when getting a nofollow link so the visitors are more genuine.
Now when you are commenting you want to be sure that the blog post you are commenting on is relevant to the link you are submitting. Secondly better you keep your name as your real name and your blog url, I do not recommend using any other keywords other then your real name where it asks this because google is kind of smart enough to pick up if you are trying to cheat the system. Just be careful.
If you are kind of new to the whole nofollow and dofollow game and don’t know how to find which are dofollow and nofollow links, I recommend you install a firefox plugin
Download and install Zachary Fox’s NoDoFollow, a useful Firefox extension that highlights the links on any side and color code them according to DoFollow or NoFollow status with either pink for NoFollow or light blue for DoFollow. With this simple plugin, you could easily differentiate which links are DoFollow and which are not. All with just a right click.

Great post..I’m still new in blogging.I’m still confuse how to know my blog especially in wordpress is do follow or nofollow?
what i have found very interesting is that google still follow some nofollow. at least to find page even robots.txt is ignore and it index page put in index in each case even if only reference in the site itself as an internal page include in another one.
google also start a new part cal sites that is on google.com domain but all link are nofollow. then google.com can only get inbound link not outbound. this is pretty scary too me since all the web concept is base on mutual apreciation google is not going in that way at all. I begin too see google a very big problem soon for the web with a dominant position and been the bully neibourgh …. Google has so much information about all poeple. I see them as the subprime mortgage buble good until it turn wrong. since Google is now public and want money selling or using everyone data to get money is not so distant I think.. no too scary too think about it ….
Even I share the same thought. commenting on nofollow really helps as they are not so spammy looking as the dofollow ones.
I absolutely agree with you on the fact that commenting on both really helps to add a great personalized and realistic feel to people who are trying to get their links out there.
I have used Firefox’s NoDoFollow add-on and it’s a perfect tool to determine if the links are do-follow or no-follow. However, if we comment on no-follow links we cannot juice up our links into the SERPS, but traffic is still there. This is one reason that webmasters and bloggers want to promote their own website to do-follow ones because they want both than just traffic only.
Thanks so much Daniel!
I do believe both do-follow and no-follow are so helpful in terms of internet traffic to gain visitors and potential sales, revenue and leads. But I think do-follow is more recommended than no-follow in blog commenting to other’s blogs using a specific relevant keyword to the owner’s niche.
The important fact there is not to make your posts look spammy. Even it’s no-follow, traffic is the main concern here as to generate more leads, sales and revenue from any third party ads you attach there.
Another great post from you Daniel! Thanks!
Difference between dofollow and nofollow sometimes just how many spams you get everyday in your blog.
Not mean I against dofollow, my blogs are dofollow though. But a good nofollow blog sometimes could get more traffic than dofollow one.
For me do follow comments the search engine robot come and get the back link in that web site and no follow comments it will redirected sites and I hope very interesting to read and you should proud to your article..
You can make the best use of this by using the updates to post interesting information about you or your business along with the URL of you blog/website. It is possible that the onlookers can get mildly interested in what you have got to say with your updates via Twitter and can eventually end up visiting your website.
Hi, great article and very helpful. The difference between do-follow and no-follow can become confusing to some.
Thanks for taking the time to post such a detailed and informative article. It has given me a lot of inspiration and I look forward to more like this in the future.
Thanks guys, just remember all comments dofollow or no follow are considered good in moderation. As long as they are evenly posted. You don’t want to one day have 1000 comments on other sites, this will send off alarm bells to Google or other search engines.
Thank you for a great post. The most important part is not to overdo it. When you gain too many links quickly you will be penalized. Keeping a balance between do-follow and no-follow links is important in order to ensure that your link building looks natural to the search engines. Thanks again for a helpful post.
This is interesting post about dofollow and nofollow. i wonder if we dont use keyword . how our site will be top on specific keyword.
