Search Engine Optimization for Bing

If you are a webmaster you may be wondering ways in which you can optimize you or your clients sites better for the Bing search engine. As most SEO experts are aware, Google has patented their algorithm on links, while Yahoo have patented their algorithm on keyword meta.

So after doing a bit of research over at the Bing webmaster blog I soon discovered that the optimization techniques based on tweaking keywords on-page were not that much different then SEO for google. The few things I found useful to know were that using body text seemed to be the most powerful and would carry more weight in it’s effectiveness on results.

You can see after some optimization I am able to get 2nd from above for the keyphrase “SEO Community”. By default the crawl rate is pretty slow, but you can create a robots.txt file to speed it up.

Then it was interesting to see that picking the right keywords was also going to be a plan of attack when doing SEO. I always found that the Google Keyword popularity tool has always helped alot. So for the most part once you have brainstormed on your niche and the words you would like to target, you can then define them and find the most popular keyphrases to use based on a tool called Microsoft Advertising Intelligence .

You will need to sign up for an adCenter account before you can use the tool. Although it costs $5 to sign up (As most things cost with Microsoft) It is still recommended. I guess it’s also their smart way of sucking you in to try out their advertising system, which by the way isn’t a bad idea!

Ten Year Update for eBay Australia

From the days where retailers were closing up their retail stores to come online in 1999, eBay Australia was launched by Kerry Packer’s ecorp and started off with 9000 members. Today they have 8 million registered users, and have generated 2.6 billion dollars worth of sales and have sold 173 million items and have recently celebrated eBay Australia Ten Year Anniversary

“The site has grown from an auction-based sales site with an average of 94,000 listings a month in 1999 to today’s online shopping phenomenon, averaging almost 80 times that number of listings each month.”

I remember back in the day where you could almost sell anything and it would sell, today this is still happening. It was reported that a Nutri Grain sold on eBay today for $1000, just 1 grain of Nutri Grain, how bizarre!

But even through growing times, eBay on the other hand is still cutting back on jobs as stated recently. With 1600 layed off in 39 countries, and 18 of those will also be cut in the land of Oz. They will then be investing in other ventures one company Bill Me Later .

For those of you who are not aware , Skype is owned by eBay but recently in September eBay sold 65% of Skype to a private equity firm Silver Lake Partners for 1.9 billion leaving ebay with 35% shares.

6 Great Ways to Sell Yourself

I Went out on a Little Adventure to Share with all my Readers a Tip or Two on Effective Ways to Sell Yourself:

1. You can go to any bar in the world, If anyone asks you why you are taking photos you can say your the CEO of a marketing company and that you are here to sponsor this bottle company by taking a photo with you and the bottle. Then you give them your business card, immediately without any exception they look at you as important and perhaps call you the next day. Or contact an alcohol company directly and tell them you would like to travel the world at their expense and promote their alcohol.

2. Book a conference room to get political candidates to join and tell them that there is much better options then Billboard and TV Advertising for this years budget and get the marketing department to contact you regarding online marketing for their community projects. Tell them that contacting you to have action steps taken rather then chit chatting is the key!

3. Forget about wine tasting, now their is fruit tasting. Put together a list of fruit juice companies to contact and send them through a photo of your obsession with fruit and offer your fruit tasting services. Also explain that by tasting their fruit you can give reviews in order to get a sponsorship deal or marketing contract. They may love your passion so much that they also let you set up an affiliate program for their juice in order to generate sales and then you can gain commission.

4. Become a Marilyn Monroe Fan on Twitter and write daily tweets about what you like about Marilyn and watch your followers grow. Before you know it you will have hundreds and thousands of fans. Once you have loads of fans you can sell anything you want to them including Marilyn Monroe bikinis.

5. Fight like a warrior, Act like a warrior. When you sell your product or service be strong and assertive and loyal and you will be respected. It isn’t until you become the ultimate champion that you will lead the way. So in the meantime atleast listen to your leaders. You may learn something.

6. Send out a newsletter to all your clients or website subscribers that are on your newsletter list allowing the most important clients to attend. In the newsletter mention for the 1st lot of clients who contact you before a certain date to confirm the booking may attend. Good to get your secretary to answer all calls and stretch a time frame within 2 weeks to place bookings around 2 hours apart for each client. During this meeting you may sell them your services.

Popular Sites with No Design

I was amazed to see there are a quite a few sites out there which are very high Alexa ranked that do not have a design or skin. Take Craigslist as an example, it is the 27th most visited site in the world and doesn’t even have a god damn logo! Their site doesn’t come any basic then this and yet there are developers all around the world trying to clone it.

Craigslist, Digital Point, Wikipedia & Google to name a few….

Digital Point Forums is also another good example being listed as 257 th most visited site in the world according to alexa. It’s site pulls in around $10,000 a month from google adsense and has around 300,000 members. You would think with the amount of money that is generated from a site like this could atleast skin the site other then using a default template.

Another one is Wikipedia, perhaps they are an exception due to the design of the logo, but the rest of the site is purely default looking.

But my favourite example would have to be Google the whole search engine is as basic as it gets except for their logo of course and sometimes this is all is takes, but for the lucky few, I will continue to be a believer in design.

The key to success with any website is less distraction as possible and with little advertising where possible.

You can see that from the 4 sites I mentioned, their ads are very neat and out of the way. This is key for successful sites. Another great example of this is Twitter and Youtube. No advertising clutter!

The Rich Jerk Lost His Car

The Rich Jerk Sold his Porsche and seems to be quite upset about it. That’s right folks, Kelly Felix founder of The Rich Jerk seems to be just making ends meet. You can see this statement from his last tweet recently on twitter.

If you havn’t heard of the The Rich Jerk and you are an affiliate or trying to make money on the internet then I would say you need to wake up a little. Kelly Felix founder of The Rich Jerk first started in 1995 and has been really one of the 1st Major Affiliate Market players since time.

Despite all scam claims and near bankruptcy he had his business up for sale in 2007 for 8 million dollars, but up until this day seems to be still running as usual.
You can never knock the guy, good on him for leading this industry and being creative with it. I must say it’s one of the most funny kind of affiliate sites I have ever come across. Don’t be mistaken, joining up to his site at the bear minimum for $9.95 is definitely worth it.
The ebook and free website template he offers to give you is in itself worth the money.One of the ebooks is over 60 pages and goes into detail on how to market your website.

Surprisingly he has tips on SEO and information on how to make money on ebay and lots of other goodies.

The marketing techniques were last updated in 2008 and show you all the little tips and tricks to get you good traffic and generate income. I would say his product is good for newbies to average experienced webmasters
